| Viability Test
When the alleged father is deceased, missing, or unavailable, samples that might contain his genetic material, such as stored blood, hair (with root), deceased tissue, and others can be tested to determine if they contain enough usable DNA for a paternity test. This test, called a viability test, is performed to ensure that a viable sample from the alleged father is available before proceeding with sample collection from the child and mother.
If you think you may have samples that are available for a viability test, please contact us through our online form or call 1-800-281-2928 with the following information:
- Size or amount of available sample
- Age of the sample
- Conditions in which the sample was stored
- The name and contact information of the coroner, medical examiner, hospital, or funeral home that has the sample (if applicable).
We will tell you the probability of obtaining viable DNA and the fee for viability testing based on sample type and condition.
